Ingredients
- 2 C Whole Wheat Flour
- 1½ C AP flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- ¼ cup Butter (cold and cut into pieces)
- 1 ½ cups Sourdough Starter
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- ¼ cup Honey
- 1 Egg (egg wash)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a bowl or stand mixer, combine flour, salt, and baking soda.
- Cut cold butter into dry mix until crumbly and BB sized.
- In a separate bowl mix the sourdough starter, buttermilk, and honey.
- Mix the buttermilk mixture into the dry mixture – 1/2 first, then 1/4, finally the last 1/4.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead 20-30 minutes or until smooth.
- Cut dough in half and form two loaves.
- Place on a baking sheet, and make and cut an X in the top of each loaf.
- Brush with egg wash and bake until 180° F internal (30-45 minutes)
