1 C sugar
¼ C honey
1 T butter
¼ C slivered almonds (optional)
¼ C toasted sesame seeds
1 tsp cinnamon
zest from one orange and one lemon
Step by Step
- Zest orange and lemon
- Strain the juice and set aside for another project
- Mix water with the sugar and honey
- Heat over medium high heat until sugar is melted
- Add butter into the hot pan
- When mixture starts to thicken and caramelize (turn brown) pour onto lightly buttered smooth surface (marble countertop or heavy cast iron
- Mix in cinnamon, almonds, zest and sesame seeds
- Mix until incorporated, then flatten using a spatula
- When it is cooler (but still hot) cut into interesting pieces – perhaps triangles
- Place individual pieces on waxed paper to cool
