Sourdough Braided Wheat Loaves

Follow the instructions on reviving your starter.

Here is a recipe for bread loaves:

Feed your starter overnight

  1. Take your LIVE starter and add 3/4 C whole wheat flour and 1/2 C white flour
  2. Mix with 1/2 C water
  3. Knead and let rise 4-5 hours (better overnight)

Ready to make bread

  1. Sift 2 tsp salt with 3 C all white flour
  2. Mix in 1 1/4 with the starter
  3. Add the flour mix to the starter mix
  4. Mix by hand and proof 5 hours
  5. Shape 1/2 of the dough into a loaf and cook as bread
  6. Take the other half and distribute as follows:
    1. 25% in the jar as starter for your next use
    2. 25, 25 and 25 % in three ropes – use to make a braid
  7. Let relax, and shape into a loaf on a baking sheet
  8. Let both rise for one hour
  9. Bake (covered with foil) at 350 degrees for 20 minutes
  10. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes
